Burglaries Increasing in 2024!
Burglaries tend to increase in the winter months, as its darker for longer periods of time and with the cost-of-living increase, we have unfortunately noticed more burglaries are happening this year! You can read this article in the South Wales Argus where the Gwent police state a 21% increase between November 2022 and November 2023.

Insurance companies require a certain standard of lock/security to comply with their policy and if you have been with the same company for years, you really need to check their current requirements. Standard Of Locks
As previously said you will need a certain standard of locks on your property to comply with your insurance companies’ requirements.
Most external Timber Doors will require a minimum of a 5 Lever mortice lock and some will require a British Standard bs3621 5-lever mortice lock.
On uPVC /Composite doors the minimum amount of Locking Points is three but generally, a Good Locksmith will supply and fit locks with a minimum of 5 Locking Points. But most importantly you will require a good standard of Euro Cylinder or it will be easier for a potential burglar to gain access through the Euro cylinder by Snapping, Pulling, Drilling, Bumping or Picking it! At City Locksmiths Gwent Ltd we only fit a minimum standard of a snap safe ts007 1-star Euro cylinder and we also supply and fit top of the range ts007 3-star snap safe cylinders.
Outdoor Lighting & Alarm Systems
Outdoor lighting is another great deterrent as a potential thief does not want to be seen and it can be very reasonable to buy from DIY stores. Alarm Systems are a must if you can afford it and City Locksmiths Gwent Ltd can steer you in the right direction of a reputable company that can offer a free quote and carry out the full installation.
